Writing Articles
for Links
Improve your
web site's link popularity by syndicating articles.
1. Write articles
for distribution. You will get both traffic and links
from having your articles placed on other sites. Articles
that solve a problem or provide informational resources
tend to be very popular. Make your articles specific but
not too specific. For example, an article on how to save
money is probably too generic to be used by many finance
sites. They most likely have that topic covered in depth
on their site already. A better choice might be an article
on how to save money on pet food. That is a topic that is
most likely not already covered on most finance sites, yet
many people have pets that are also on tight budgets. An
example of an article that is too specific would be how
to save money on food for your llama or how to save money
on pet food around Chicago. You may get some sites to pick
up these latter topics, but most likely they will be too
specific to interest most web site owners and newsletter
distributors.
2. You can
either put articles you write for links on article directory
sites or try to write articles specifically for the leading
sites in your field. I find it helpful to mix it up
and do a bit of both. Sometimes articles written for article
directories will get picked up by high quality sites and
sometimes they don't. Over time, by writing a variety of
different articles you can get a feel for what will most
likely get picked up and what won't.
3. Make the
articles you distribute different from the content on your
own site so your site doesn't come out on the wrong
end of a duplicate content penalty.
4. When you are
surfing the web, make a note of any articles in directories
that seem to rank particularly well for future use.
5. Take a cue
from the magazines at the checkout stand and give your
syndicated articles interesting titles that capture people's
attention. Instead of "Advice on how to grow roses"
try "The Top Ten Mistakes to Avoid for Rose Gardeners".
6. Write tutorial
articles and submit them to "how to" sites.
7. Find authors
in your field who utilize article writing as a method of
gaining links, and make a note of where they submit
their articles.
8. Every once
in awhile, do a search in Google, Yahoo and MSN for your
syndicated articles. See what sites have picked them
up from the article banks. If there are any high trust rank
sites in your list, then make a note of it. Keep those sites
on your future article distribution lists or offer them
exclusive articles for their use.
